Day 2: Short game
In the wake of Tiger Woods’s triumph on Arnold Palmer’s home course in Florida a group of lucky clients on Le Bureau’s Handicap on Track trip to Vilamoura in Portugal were taking on one of his designs today.
The group played the Victoria Course and in the warm but breezy conditions it was Rafaela Pantazopoulos who came out on top in a skins game where the prize money was only slightly less than Woods scooped at Bay Hill on Sunday night.
The group spent seven hours on golf today as part of their intensive coaching and playing programme designed to help them get their games into shape in beautiful surroundings and glorious weather. Coach Graham Kaye concentrated on the short game offering a range of techniques to save shots around the greens. As well as chipping and pitching, each client was given a personalised putting routine to focus on.
Such was the short game wizardry on show that the storks nesting close to the range took time out from their busy schedules to have a quick look.
Tomorrow the group will be put on the Trackman system to start crunching some numbers about the distance, direction and dispersal of their shots. The Doppler radar device can instantaneously provide these results to give the coach data on which to base his recommendations.
